UBSR 2012 Elections
Hey UBSR Members!!!
It’s that time of the year again: Elections!
On the evening of Thursday, March 22nd, 2012 (location and time to be announced) UBSR will be hosting our Annual Elections! In order to vote please click here to register.
If you would like to run for a position (which we would totally love for you to do!) Please click here to fill out an application form (applications will be sent directly to our CRO Diandra Hayles who will be officiating this election).
Below you will find the positions that are available along with a short summary of their responsibilities:
President & Vice-President

Chairing UBSR Meetings
-
Managing relationships with external groups
-
Setting the overall direction of UBSR
-
Assisting other execs with their duties as needed
-
*The Vice-President will fill in for the President if they are unavailable

**In the event of a tie in a vote; the President will break the tie
Director of Administration
-
Responsible for meeting minutes
-
Booking rooms for:
-
Meetings
-
Events
-
Responsible for UBSR’s administrative affairs
-
Cheque requisition forms
-
Student group of the year application
-
Grant applications
-
Membership lists
-
Responsible for communicating with UBSR members via email
-
Email blasts
-
Screening the general UBSR email address
Director of Finance
- Responsible for tracking UBSR’s Finances
- Responsible for allocating budget money to UBSR’s various initiatives
- One of the group’s signing officers
- Responsible for invoices (creation and reception) on UBSR’s behalf
Director of Technology
- Responsible for UBSR’s graphic design
- Responsible for the maintenance of UBSR’s web presence
- Posting on: Facebook, Twitter, Blog
- Responsible for integrating new technological approaches into UBSR
- Implementing new services such as Mail Chimp, Hootsuite, etc.
Director of Outreach
- Responsible for coordinating UBSR’s outreach efforts
- Responsible for planning marketing campaigns for UBSR
Director of Events
- Responsible for overseeing the planning of UBSR events
- Ensuring that even when not directly planning events, that they are kept at a high level of quality and preparation
- Responsible for major events during the semester
- United Black Students Conference
- Large Scale Partnerships
At the elections all candidates will be required to make a short presentation (approx. 5 min or less) to the members present; also, each candidate will require at least one person on the UBSR voting list, as mentioned above, to be present at the elections to second their application.

First Fridays @ Ryerson!!!
Hey All!!!
Over the past couple months we have been working with First Fridays Toronto to host one of their monthly networking nights at Ryerson and (thanks to the office of the Vice Provost of Students) we finally succeeded!!!
This Friday, March 2nd, 2012 at 7:30 PM in the Atrium (245 Church Street, 3rd Floor) UBSR and First Fridays Toronto will be hosting First Fridays Media Edition! This will be a night of networking, knowledge, and exposure, featuring the following AMAZING speakers:
Nneka Elliott, President – The MediaHuddle / CTV On-Air Personality
Spider Jones - Award winning journalist in both the music and boxing fields / energetic advocate of the ‘Believe To Achieve’ Organization
Femi Lawson – Engaging Youth through new online media

UBSR Goes to SOUL: Hosted by the Black Students Association at UWO
Hey Family!
Annually the Black Students Association at the University of Western Ontario does an amazing event called SOUL. This event is a celebration of black artistry and this year it will be taking place from February 10th-11th.
UBSR execs have a tradition of attending and we would like to bring as many people as possible!
