UBSR launched the first ever ‘Black Students Conference’ in November 2009 with the realization that as a Black student collective in one of the most diverse cities and schools in the country,  we possessed a unique opportunity to encourage dialogue that explores and combats the issues that plagued our community. From inception the goal of the conference has been to create and maintain a space where we can build bridges among the various Black communities and diasporas, develop a community focused on exploring and combating  systemic and internal barriers that hinder our progress in society. Given the overwhelming response and support following this initial conference we at UBSR have been committed to maintaining and continually expanding upon the breadth and depth of the conference in terms of content and attendees.  Every conference since has been tailored to meet the needs of our present day situation.
